1st Grade - 1st Quarter Objectives 2008/09

Welcome to 1st Grade

Language Arts

• Review alphabet and initial consonant sounds
• Introduce short vowels
• Introduce sequence of events
• Introduce inflectional endings: -s
• Introduce context clues
• Introduce reading and sight vocabularies
• Write in journals daily

Math

• Explore concept of same, more, or fewer
• Create and complete patterns
• Explore ways of counting from 1 to 12
• Explore the meaning of addition through the use of concrete materials

Science

• Study plants

• Build self-awareness and introduce our new classroom families

Welcome to first grade. The first day of school is such an awesome event, filled with anticipation, excitement, and a touch of anxiety.
