Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to the 2008-2009 school year. My name is Mrs. Mastropaolo and I am the art teacher at Sutherland School. The visual arts program focuses on the development of creativity and skills within a variety of content areas including painting, drawing, printmaking, collage, and sculpture. Students learn about art through hands-on activities that emphasize critical thinking and problem solving. Art lessons follow the Illinois State Goals for Fine Arts and examine art history, art aesthetics, production, and criticism. Students will develop their own artistic process as well as come to understand other cultures through art making. Together, we will share ideas during class discussions, journal entries, and critiques. Student work will be displayed during our spring art exhibit. I will let the students know when a specific piece of art is being stored for the show. I will update my web page periodically so you may see the student work happening at other grade levels. Students are required to have art supplies based upon their grade level supply list during every art class. If you have any questions about the Sutherland art program, I am available before school from 8:30-9:00 and after school. I am looking forward to all of our creative endeavors.
Thank you,
Mrs. Mastropaolo
