LSC Minutes - 7/11/06
Sutherland Elementary
Local School Council
Meeting Minutes 7/11/06, 4 PM
Sutherland Library
-
Roll was taken; present members were Charlie Zarzecki, Reggie O’Connor, Rosalind Faulkner, Cathy Shepherd, Aronzo Traylor, Catherine Gannon, John Somerville and Donna Somerville.
-
Minutes from the June 27, 2006 meeting were deferred.
-
A brief discussion was held regarding the filling of a community representative vacancy. R. Traylor will determine any requirements for credentials and report back to the LSC.
-
Officers and committee chairs were nominated and approved as follows:
R. Traylor for Chairman, C. Zarzecki for Vice Chairman, S. Poole for Secretary, D. Somerville for Buildings & Grounds, R. Traylor for School Climate (Sports). A new committee may be added to cover Fraudulent Enrollment.
-
Principal’s Report was read by C. Gannon and is attached. Key issues included plans for an “enrollment week,” signs for which were posted on main doors to the building. Also, confirmation that the 19th Ward Office has secured funding for a shared investigator (with MPHS and other neighboring schools), who will be announced in August. We need clarification of the lines of communication and reporting structure for this investigator, perhaps via a committee with members from each school.
-
No Public comment.
-
Committees — No PPLC or PTA input; under Buildings & Grounds, Ms. Gannon and Ms. Elwood are working on specifics of the proposed Security measures. Several comments were made regarding further ideas on this topic. Under School Climate, the sports guidelines were issued to members for review and comments before distribution to students and parents in the fall.
-
New Business — 2006-7 Meeting schedule will be proposed and sent to members by email by R. Traylor.
-
Old Business — A hard copy of the LSC’s letter to M. Baines at the Area Office will be hand-delivered to ensure attention to our written response regarding the overturning of our fraudulent enrollment decision.
-
No public comment.
-
Next meeting will be held on September 12, at 4 PM, unless an August meeting is also necessary to follow up on the fraudulent enrollment situation as described above.
-
The meeting was adjourned at 5:25 PM
