Meeting Minutes
August 8, 2006
Sutherland Library

The meeting began at 4:00 p.m.
- Roll was taken; present members were Bill Cahill, Catherine Gannon, Reggie O’Connor, Susan Poole, Cathy Shepherd, John Somerville, Aronzo Traylor, and Charlie Zarzecki.
- Minutes from the June 27, 2006 (motion- Cathy Shepherd, second-Reggie O’Connor) and July 11, 2006 (motion-John Somerville, second-Reggie O’Connor) meetings were read and approved.
- Principal’s Report- Ms. Gannon distributed a copy of items to be discussed in her report.
- Ms. Gannon will monitor a fundraiser to sell Entertainment books in the fall with the proceeds being used to pay for the P.T.A’s current webmaster. Cathy Shepherd made a motion to approve the fundraiser. The motion was seconded by Reggie O’Connor.
- Ms. Gannon is looking into leasing 36 computers, 3 per classroom for K-3, and upgrading the server to support the programs. Quotes are coming in around $14,000 per year. Tables will need to be purchased for setting up the centers.
- Ms. Bending, the new first grade teacher will be attending Dibels training next week. Ms. Gannon would like to implement this assessment tool.
- Ms. Gannon is working on a Staff Development schedule for next year.
- Ms. Gannon will have more information on a volunteer program, Reading Buddies, at the beginning of the school year.
- Ms. Gannon is receiving several phone calls per day regarding registration, but has not registered anyone yet. She presented a copy of an ISBE Affidavit of Enrollment and Residency. The CPS law department will have to approve its use.
- With regard to security, Ms. Gannon is currently getting bids on new doors, keypads and locks, and rolling gates.
- Ms. Gannon is working on a letter to supplement the school handbook that would detail the Sutherland School Building Security policy.

- Buildings and Grounds- Ms. Gannon ordered signs to prevent loitering after 9:30 p.m. Marty and Donna Somerville are working on auditorium lighting. Susan Poole reported that she emailed Ginger Rugai concerning an outside security camera and Ms. Rugai is currently surveying the site for a camera.
- Executive Session- Cathy Shepherd made a motion to move to Executive Session. Reggie O’Connor seconded the motion. (Executive Session is on attached tape.)
- New Business
- Cathy Shepherd volunteered to look at locations, mainly the atrium at the Beverly Art Center, to host a community social to meet Ms. Gannon.
- Susan Poole and Bill Cahill recently completed LSC training in modules 1,2, and 7. Ron Traylor will investigate other options for national certification that would cover modules 3,4, 5, and 6 in place of modules 7,8, and 9.
- Modules 5 and 6 will be held November 11, 2006.
- Modules 3 and 4 will be held November 18, 2006.
- Old Business
- Reggie O’Connor made a motion to establish a Fraudulent Enrollment Committee. Cathy Shepherd seconded the motion. John Somerville will obtain a copy of the Sutherland By-laws to verify the requirements for the committee.
- Bill Cahill will call potential Community Rep. Candidates to see if they are interested. An announcement looking for volunteers may be made.
- Cingular is currently putting up bands and tuckpointing. Verizon will be starting their work after October 1, 2006.
- Public Comment-none
- Next LSC meeting will be September 12, 2006 at 4:00 p.m.
- At 6:40 p.m., John Somerville made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Reggie O’Connor seconded the motion.
