Sutherland Elementary Local School Council
Meeting Minutes
December 12, 2006
Sutherland Auditorium
1. The meeting began at 4:00 p.m.
2. Roll was taken; present members were Michael Barnum, Bill Cahill, Rosalind Faulkner, Catherine Gannon, Reggie O’Connor, Susan Poole, Cathy Shepherd, Donna Somerville, John Somerville, Ron Traylor, and Charlie Zarzecki.
3. Minutes from the November 14, 2006 meeting were read and approved with one correction noting that the donated security cameras have not yet been installed.
4. Principal’s Report- Ms. Gannon distributed a report (see attached).
a. The PAWS reward committee has met and is planning a carnival for Thursday, December 21st.
b. Children’s Book Week was a huge success with many guest readers.
c. A teacher’s aid has been hired to work with the overcrowded classrooms in grades 1,3,6, & 7.
d. Ms. Casey will be working with grades K-2 to study French until April.
e. Response has been slow from the Rosetta Stone language class offering.
f. Applications for all options programs including full day kindergarten are due on December 22nd.
5. Public Comment - Alicia Pearson from Score Educational Center introduced herself.
6. Delegate Reports
a. PPLC (Curriculum) - nothing to report
b. PTA - gift shop went well, Innisbrook sales were down, volunteers needed for the father/daughter dance.
c. Buildings and Grounds - The gym floor is in need of repair, but Principal Gannon said the Bd. of Ed. will not pay for a new floor at this time. Donna is investigating the installation of the two donated security cameras on the playground and next to the annex. The PTA, Donna, and Sue Cody will meet about traffic concerns next month.
d. School Climate - nothing to report
7. New Business
a. LSC retreat - Ron will schedule with Valencia Rias after February.
8. Old Business
a. Fraudulent Enrollment - After discussing the necessity of a Fraudulent Enrollment Committee it was determined that based on the recent response letters received from AMPS officer, Melissa Zaikos, a separate Fraudulent Enrollment Committee was not needed. Principal Gannon will coordinate initial fraudulent enrollment cases and monitor existing cases. She will make periodic reports to the LSC on the status of cases so the LSC can get involved when necessary. Charlie Zarzecki then made a motion to disband the newly formed Fraudulent Enrollment Committee. Donna Somerville seconded the motion.

10. Next LSC meeting is January 9, 2007 at 7:00 p.m.
11. The meeting was adjourned at 4:55 p.m.
