Meeting Minutes
January 9, 2007
Sutherland Auditorium

  1. The meeting began at 7:00 p.m.
  2. Roll was taken; present members were Michael Barnum, Bill Cahill, Catherine Gannon, Reggie O’Connor, Susan Poole, Cathy Shepherd, Donna Somerville,  and Ron Traylor.
  3. Minutes from the December 12, 2006 meeting were read and approved with one correction noting that Valencia’s last name was not Williams, but Rias.
  4. Principal’s Report- Ms. Gannon distributed a report.
    1. The PAWS rewards carnival was a huge success. Mr. Henderson and Kitty Carroll headed up a committee of parents to coordinate activities.
    2. SIP Midyear Review will be conducted at the end of January. LSC members will receive a survey via email.
    3. Principal Gannon has had a great deal of correspondence with the Law Department and investigators concerning fraudulent enrollment. Several cases are being investigated and individuals are receiving notices.
    4. Twenty families signed up for Rosetta Stone and on-line subscriptions have been set up.
    5. We received 69 applications for the full day kindergarten at Sutherland. Of those students 50-52 will be selected. Those who are not selected will be offered half-day and put on a waiting list for full day. We have about 6 individuals for the half-day program. A total of 75 students for kindergarten. We received more than 200 applications for grades 1-8. We are currently closed in all grade levels.

    1. PPLC (Curriculum)-nothing to report
    2. PTA-meeting is currently being held in the building
    3. Buildings and Grounds- Donna is working on getting estimates for the installation of donated security cameras and repairing the gym floor
    4. School Climate- Ron met with Sue Cody.  Everything is going well with the sports programs.

    1. LSC retreat- none
  4. Old Business -
    1. Fraudulent Enrollment - Principal Gannon gave a summary in her report. Specific details will be discusses in Executive Session.
    2. Cell Tower - Principal Gannon will contact Debra Hill about the dispute between Verizon and Cingular over access to their equipment on the tower. Verizon has not started installation and we are currently not receiving funds from them.
