Sutherland Elementary Local School Council
Meeting Minutes
February 13, 2007
Sutherland Library   

  1. The meeting began at 4:05 p.m.
  2. Roll was taken; present members were: Bill Cahill, Rosalind Faulkner, Catherine Gannon, Reggie O’Connor, Susan Poole, Donna Somerville,  Ron Traylor, and Charlie Zarzecki.
  3. Minutes from the January 9, 2007 meeting were read and approved.
  4. Principal’s Report- Ms. Gannon distributed a report.
    1. SIP Midyear review is complete. The fact sheet explains the progress to date and considerations for the next SIPAA.
    2. ISAT individual test scores went home today.  The School Report Card data and AYP report is due from the state this week.
    3. On February 20th, we will begin using a new student information system called IMPACT for attendance and grades.  Next quarters report cards are expected to be computer generated if all goes well.
    4. Principal Gannon is asking parents to call daily if their child is absent from school in order to account for all absent children early in the day.

  2. Delegate Reports
    1. PPLC (Curriculum)-nothing to report
    2. PTA-student directory will be completed in the near future. PTA is looking for volunteers for “Parents Night Out”.  There will be a Spring Fannie May candy fundraiser.
    3. Buildings and Grounds- The two donated security cameras will be installed soon with an anticipated cost of $2,700.  Donna is getting a written estimate on the gym floor repairs.

  3.  New Business
    1. Members expressed concern that the BAC drama program may not take place this year.  Principal Gannon said that two items, adequate supervision and dismissal from class need to be addressed by the program before it can take place.  We are waiting for BAC’s response regarding these two concerns.
  1.  Old Business
    1. Fraudulent Enrollment- There have been some successes and some challenges, but as a whole the process is working.
    2. b.   Cell Tower- Debra Hill met with Verizon and Cingular about their dispute over the location of the stairway leading to their equipment.  Nothing will be done until June.
  2. Moved to Executive Session to discuss  Mid-Year Review and Upcoming School Report Card Data.
  3. Returned from Executive Session
  4. Public Comment- Jim Sencion spoke about his concern over a frequent parent driver that does not obey stop signs and shows signs of disregard.  Principal Gannon took the license plate number and the situation will be monitored.
  5. The next LSC meeting is March 13, 2007 at 4:00 p.m.
  6. Meeting was adjourned at 5:25 p.m.
