LSC Minutes - 03/20/07

Sutherland Elementary Local School Council
Meeting Minutes
March 20, 2007
Sutherland Library

  1. This meeting was originally scheduled for March 13th, but due to the power outage it was changed to today. The meeting began at 4:05 p.m.
  2. Roll was taken; present members were: Michael Barnum, Bill Cahill, Rosalind Faulkner, Catherine Gannon, Reggie O’Connor, Susan Poole, Cathy Shepherd, Ron Traylor, and Charlie Zarzecki.
  3. Minutes from the February 13, 2007 meeting were read and approved with the exception of the word “not” to be inserted under Public Comment.
  4. Principal’s Report- Ms. Gannon distributed a report.
    1. AYP report was handed out.  Overall scores were great.
    2. Budget Process for SIPAAA will come out on March 25th and will need to be approved at the next LSC meeting.
    3. Committee members will need to be available the week of March 26th between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. for teacher candidate interviews.
    4. On April 12th @ 8:30 a.m. there will be a Safety and Security Audit.
    5. Outside security cameras are scheduled to be installed over spring break.
    6. ISAT tests went well.
  1. Public Comment- none
  2. Delegate Reports
    1. PPLC (Curriculum)-nothing to report
    2. PTA-student directory will be completed soon.  A database of names and addresses will be in place for next year’s directory. They are looking for new ways to “jump start” the PTA.  Volunteers are needed for PTA newsletters on Thursday mornings.  Parents Night Out is March 24th.
    3. Buildings and Grounds- Donna will schedule a spring cleanup at the end of April.  It will either be after school or on a Saturday morning.  The gym floor will be repaired over the summer.
    4. School Climate- Ron met with Sue Cody and scheduling for gym time is going well.  This week letters will go home with students inquiring about their interest in the BAC drama program.  If there is enough interest it will take place. The student council is doing a fundraiser for Malaria prevention.
  3.  New Business
    1. Student Enrollment- Bill asked about the status of  a yearly enrollment process for all students.  Principal Gannon’s contact regarding this issue no longer works for CPS.  She would have to get the law department’s approval and she feels the process will not get approved with enough time for completion during this school year.  The kindergarten lottery took place this week and letters are being prepared.  All applicants were within attendance area.
    2. Classroom Climate Control-  Susan asked about the warm classrooms and wasted energy as a result of windows being open.  Principal Gannon responded that the boiler is either off or on without temperature control.  Ron will ask Marty about the lack of a thermostat.  We will also look into ways to improve air quality in the school with one suggestion being air purifiers.
    3. Uniforms- Michael asked about the sentiment toward school uniforms.  Ron will send a brief survey home with students this month.
  4. Old Business
  5. a. Fraudulent Enrollment- The process is working.

    b.    LSC Training- Ron has scheduled “Principal’s Review” training for either March 28th or 29th.  The review will be completed April 20, 21, or 22nd.  April 30th will be a feedback session
  1. Executive Session-none
  2. Public Comment- none
  3. The next LSC meeting is April 10, 2007 at 7:00 p.m.
  4. Meeting was adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
