LSC Minutes - 07/10/07

Sutherland Elementary Local School Council
Meeting Minutes
July 10, 2007
Sutherland Teacher’s Lounge

  1. The meeting began at 4:05 p.m.
  2. Roll was taken; present members were: Bill Cahill, Catherine Gannon, Reggie O’Connor, Susan Poole, Donna Somerville, Ron Traylor, and Charlie Zarzecki.
  3. Minutes from the June 12, 2007 meeting were read and approved.
  4. Principal’s Report- Ms. Gannon distributed a report.

    1. Verizon has not begun work on the cell tower yet.  We received a check from Cingular.
    2. Preliminary ISAT results show gains in some areas.
    3. Sutherland reunion classes will visit on July 28th at 9:30 a.m.
    4. The Law Dept. and investigators are doing a great job with fraudulent enrollment investigations and hearings.
    5. Registration dates for the upcoming school year have been posted.
    6. Safety and audit reports were distributed.
  5. Public Comment- Mary Hughes from the organization, 19th Ward Parents for Special Education, spoke concerning the lack of an “Instructional Room” for special education students at Sutherland or within the attendance area.  Her organization has been working with local politicians to provide this so that “in attendance students” do not have to attend schools outside of the attendance area to receive required services.
  6. Delegate Reports
    1. PPLC (Curriculum)-nothing to report
    2. PTA-The PTA is recruiting adult volunteers for the crossing and safety patrol. Plans are underway for “I Madonnari” in September.
    3. Buildings and Grounds- The gym floor has been repaired. CPS sent landscapers to spread mulch around the campus.   Donna and Sue will look into replacing some dead bushes installed through the campus parks program.
    4. School Climate- The feasibility of uniforms will be discussed in September.
  1.  New Business
    1. Roof drainage- Marty will look at gutters to determine problem.
    2. LSC 2007-2008 calendar was approved.  All meetings will be at 4:00.
  2. Old Business- discussed in Principal’s report.
  3. Move to Executive Session to discuss parent rep candidates
  4. Return from Executive Session
  5. Vote for Parent Rep Candidate- a recommendation to appoint Bill Cunningham to the vacant parent rep position was made.  The council accepted the recommendation.
  6. Public comment- none
  7. Next LSC meeting is September 11, 2007 at 4:00 p.m.
  8. The meeting was adjourned at 5:10 p.m.
