Sutherland Elementary Local School Council
Meeting Minutes
January 8, 2008
Sutherland Auditorium
- The meeting began at 4:00 p.m.
- Roll was taken; present members were: Michael Barnum, Melissa Ciezki, Rosalind Faulkner, Catherine Gannon, Susan Poole, Donna Somerville, Ron Traylor, and Charlie Zarzecki.
- Minutes from the December 11, 2007 meeting were read and approved.
- Principal’s Report- Ms. Gannon distributed a report.
- ISAT tests will be given March 3-14.
- The second session of the after school program begins January 9th and runs through March.
- This year the Illinois State Textbook funds have been designated for grades K-6. The Sutherland allocation is $20,303.34.
- Individual meetings with teachers about the students in their classrooms have occurred. The quarter ends on January 25th and report cards go home on January 30th.
- Teachers are continuing to work on curriculum alignment projects.
- The SIPAAA core team will meet on Wednesday, January 16th.
- The PAWS winter carnival was a huge success. A special thank you to Kitty Carroll for coordinating the event.
- The PAWS team will meet with students next week for a kickoff of the new year.
- Work has begun on the Verizon cell tower
- On January 11th the newsletter will be available on-line only
- Public Comment- none
- Delegate Reports
- PPLC (Curriculum)-nothing to report
- PTA- The PTA is looking for new officers for next year. Parents Night Out and the Father/Daughter dance are scheduled for April.
- Building and Grounds-nothing to report
- School Climate-The sports committee will meet to review guidelines drafted two years ago. A summary of allocations of sports program funds will be added to the guidelines.
- New Business- None
- Old Business
- Uniforms- An official vote was taken to determine whether a uniform policy is needed at this time. Seven members voted against moving forward with implementation of a uniform policy and one voted in favor of the move.
- LSC SIPAAA training will take place on January 10th. LSC Budget training will take place on January 17th
- Executive Session- none
- Public Comment-none
- Next LSC meeting is February 13, 2008 at 4:00 p.m.
- The meeting was adjourned at 5:15 p.m.
