LSC Minutes - 11/4/08

Sutherland Local School Council
Special Call Meeting Minutes
November 4, 2008

1. Meeting convenes at 4:10p

2. Role was taken. Members present were Bill Cahill, Catherine Gannon, Cheryl Kite, Meg OSullivan-Reidy, Ron Traylor, Donna Somerville, and Charlie Zarzecki. Members absent: Mike Barnum and Melissa Cieski.

3. October minutes were read.

4. Principal's Report (read by Ms. Gannon)

  1. Individual meetings with teachers to discuss student data will be held.
  2. Report cards will be distributed in the next week along with ISAT parent reports.
  3. Test Score Reivew: Test scores are up again.
  4. After school program has begun
  5. Sutherland hosted a High School Fair on November 5, 2008.
  6. IB/MYP Presentation was given by Ms. Gail Tennell and Molly Barnum
  7. Cultural Exnrichment: The first Urban Gateways Performance was presented about the "History of Rock and Roll"
  8. Professional Development: October 24, 2008: Teachers met and worked collaboratively on Reading, IB/MYP units, planning, mission, vision, and philosophy
  9. Math supplemental materials were purchased (Geometry)
  10. Residency investigations continue.
  11. The 2nd Mobile Cart was delivered and set up.
  12. Friends and family night was scheduled for November 5th at Country House Restaurant.
  13. Voice Blast problems, weely news will be posted on the website.

5. Public Comment

  1. There was a concer about the email blast - news will be posted on website when there is a problem.
  2. Continued concern about residency.
  3. Continued concern about class sizes.

6. PPLC - no concerns

7. PTA - Kung Fu Panda? Sound System in need of repair. Market Day samples will be available.

8. Building and Grounds - Man power needed to clear shrubs.

9. School Climate - basketball and volleyball season started.

10. New Business - Mr. Cahill was concerned about the amount of time allotted for students eating lunch. Board of Ed allows 20 mins only. Teacher intervention - students will be reminded to eat.

11. Old Business

  1. Enrollment - Covered in Principal's report

12. Moved to Executive Session at 5:20p - Julie Moran was selected as the community representative and Cathy Bennett as a parent representative.

13. Returned from executive session at 5:20. New candidates were recommended and approved.

14. Public Comment - None

15. Next meeting to be on December 2, 2008

16. Meeting adjourned at 5:30p
