LSC Minutes - 5/05/10

The May 5, 2010 regular meeting was called to order by the chairperson, Mr. Aronzo Traylor, at 4:04pm. A quorum was present.

Members in attendance were: All members present.
Mike Barnum, Kathy Bennett, Catherine Gannon, Melissa Boyd, Robert Cahill (4:25p), Cheryl Kite, Julie Moran (4:09p),
Ron Traylor, Donna Sommerville, Charlie Zarzeki( left at 4:40p).

Members not in attendance: All present

The minutes of March 2nd 2010 were read and approved.

Committee Reports were given:

Principal’s Report – SIPAAA presentation was presented following committee report and the presentation will be available on the Sutherland website. SIPAAA changes could occur between now and July. Future Capital Improvements are expected following bids being submitted.

LSC elections took place on Wednesday April 21, 2010 and the following candidates were elected:
Parent Members: Dawn Craan, Laurie Delfavero, Paul Faeh, John Griffin, Julie O’Conner, and Ron Traylor.
Community Members: Laurie Ach and Kevin McGuire.
New members will begin their term in July and LSC training is scheduled to begin in May.

LSC Members received a copy of the cell tower expenditures. Residency investigations are on-going. Chicago Cares is coming to paint 2nd floor classrooms, ladders and volunteers will be needed. Enrollment is slightly over 750.

PPLC – No report.

PTA – Meeting scheduled to follow LSC meeting at 7p.

Buildings and Grounds – Renovations mentioned in principal’s report.

School Climate – No new initiatives at present.

Old Business – Covered in Principal report.

New Business – None to report.

Public Comment: Parent concerned about having a tuition based kindergarten. Parents expressed praise and concern about possible staff cuts.
A parent urged community members and staff to contact their representatives concerning  State Budget appropriation for education.

The meeting was adjourned at 5p
Next meeting will be held on June 1, 2010.
