Dawn Craan read the meeting minutes from the September 14, 2010 meeting.  There were no corrections made. Motion made to approve meeting minutes.  Motion seconded. Minutes approved.

Principal Report\Curriculum Nights were well attended for the 7th and 8th grades.  Requirements for graduation, promotion, and high school applications procedures were presented to the parents.

We received the grant for the after school program which includes both academic support and enrichment opportunities.  Some of the programs are Reading and Math Club, Yoga, and homework help.  These programs have already started. We have received two free Beverly Art Center programs which will take place after school, as well as after school jazz band.

Members of the RTI team attended a workshop given by the AMPS office to learn more about RTI interventions.  All teachers attended training on September 24, 2010 for RTI, SIPAAA, MAP data, and MAP teacher supports.  Sutherland will be part of a team of four local schools that works with consultants to develop strategies and interventions specifically for growth of students who are already considered proficient.

Individual meetings are underway with teachers to discuss professional growth and MAP/DIBELS data. RTI requires several tiers with all students being part of Tier I.  We have begun Tier II and Tier III interventions with our Teacher Tutors and certified paraprofessionals.  MAP test results will go home with students October 13th.  The student goal setting worksheet will be sent home.  Additional information for parents will be sent home and is posted on the website.

We are preparing for our IBO evaluation visit on October 29, 2010.  A parent has stepped forward to head Stew Crew so the IB Advisory Board is not necessary at this time.  Of the 91 8th graders, about 66 are eligible to apply to the IB program at the high school level.  Applications for the IB Program at Morgan Park High School are only available from Mrs. Ryan.  IB service hours have been reduced from 40 hours to 30 hours.  Mrs. Ryan is looking for quality hours more than quantity.  Eligible 8th graders being encouraged to complete IB application even if they are applying to other schools.  Mrs. Ryan is stressing the importance of grades to the 7th graders for the high school application.  The IB program and community hours were explained to the 6th graders. They received a list of opportunities for service hours that can be done at the school.  September 25, 2010, Mr. Cahill, Mrs. Meyer, Mrs. Mastropaolo, Mrs. Ryan met with the Artist in Residence program from the Art Institute and planned for the 8 weeks of instruction at the school.  Mrs. Kite, Mrs. Mastropaolo, and Mrs. Ryan met with the ART Program on October 12, 2010.  Sutherland is exchanging art with Cambodia this year.  Mrs. Kite’s class was chosen to participate in the art exchange.

The students have attended two in-school field trips.  Several new performances have been included to provide a variety of opportunities and experiences for all students.  Children’s Choir begins next week.  Violin and Band have begun.

There are no changes to the cell tower report.

Residency files are being audited and cases have been submitted to the Law Department. Enrollment is above 750.

September newsletter was posted on October 8th.
