LSC Minutes December 13, 2011

Local School Council
Meeting Minutes for November 8, 2011 4:30

Meeting convened at 4:35pm.

Members in attendance:  Dawn Craan, Julie O’Connor, Catherine Gannon, Melissa Boyd, Cheryl Kite, Debbie Barnum, Laurie Ach, Laurie DelFavero, Aronzo Traylor,  Kevin McGuire, Paul Faeh, and John Griffin Jr., (arrived at 4:42).
Members Absent :None

A vote was put on the floor to add that $200 for supplies to be added to the agenda.  The vote was seconded and passed unanimously.

The meeting minutes were read and approved unanimously for October 11, 2011.

The principal’s report was read, and monthly reports were provided.

Delegate Reports:
PPLC:  6,7, and 8 humanities were coming up in the future, sample are on their way for 3-5, looking at consumables for K-2, and how common core standards will match up to our current textbooks.
PTA – nothing to report the PTA meeting is later tonight.
PR Committee: they have not met again yet, but the SIPAA pamphlet they created would be going home for parents with report cards.
School Climate: they have met and reviewed their purpose which they have decided is to invoke school spirit, feel that Sutherland students are offered many different activities that there is something to fit everyone, they have met with Ms Gannon and are working with her on the PAWS program, they have realized there is a gap in the 6-8 in what is helpful to the PAWS program and are going to try to work with the Sutherland community of offer different types of incentives to students 6-8, such as a large raffle item at the end of the year.
Funding:  have not met, Foundation link was added to the website.
SIPAA Amendment Budget:  additional money for substitutes to keep money for RTI, substitutes to allow for IB activities, and material to support the SIPAA by means of supplies.  A motion was presented to approve the transfer of money for this, motion was made, seconded, and passed unanimously.

New Business: To use survey monkey to complete a survey for the Principal Evaluation.  The costs associate would be $24 a month for the surveys and results.  We would still provide paper copy for parents they are not able to get surveys online.

Old Business: None

LSC is given $200 to use for their needs.  A motion was made to use the $200 for supplies needed for principal surveys.  Motion was made, seconded, and passed unanimously.

Public Comment- Donna Somerville was wondering if all the testing that the students had to do (Common Core standards, ISAT’s, and MAPS) if they were all a necessity or could one be eliminated as all the testing would be taking away classroom time for the students.  Ms Gannon addressed that they were all mandatory.
Ms. Ryan said the Morgan Park IB enrollment this year is done only online and if parents are not aware they may miss the opportunity.

Meeting adjourned at 5:30pm, with next meeting scheduled for Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at 4:30pm.
