LSC Duties & Committees Descriptions
Powers and Duties of the Local School Council:
-Hires and evaluates the performance of the school principal
-Evaluates and approves the School Improvement Plan for Advancing Academic Achievement (SIPAAA) prepared by the principal with respect to all funds distributed by the Board of Education
-Monitors and receives reports from the principal involving the school’s internal accounts
-Makes recommendations to the principal concerning textbook selection and curriculum development
-Advises the principal concerning attendance, disciplinary and other policies
The LSC also has committees that monitor school progress and make recommendations to the LSC. They currently are:
School Climate – Chairperson: Aronzo Traylor
The School Climate committee meets with Principal Gannon to review programs that evoke school spirit. These include: the positive behavior program (PAWS), community service through the IB program, Student Council, and the extracurricular sports programs.
PPLC (Professional Personnel Leadership) – Co-Chairs: Melissa Boyd and Cheryl Kite
The PPLC is made up of certified teachers who advise the principal and the LSC regarding the educational program, curriculum, and school improvement plan development and implementation.
PTA (Parent Teacher Association) - Liaison: Luke Somerville
The PTA committee is a liaison between the PTA and LSC. They attend PTA meetings and report the highlights at LSC meetings.
CIWP/Budget - Chairperson: Catherine Gannon
The CIWP committee coordinates the steps in the planning process and assists the principal in preparing the school improvement plan. The plan is considered an annual blueprint for all activities within the school.
Funding Committee - Meets with PTA, Foundation and Principal to determine ways various organizations can raise and use funds to support the goals and plans of the school in alignment with the CIWP.
