Sutherland School Newsletter - April 2008Report Card Pick-Up Report Card Pick-Up will take place on Thursday, April 17th. Hours are 12:30 until 6:00 p.m. LSC Elections will take place on the same day. Spring Portraits We will be offering a unique opportunity for Spring Portraits by Kirk Shepherd, a local studio photographer, here at Sutherland. Students will have the opportunity to have a special portrait taken. They may choose a prop such as, violin, baseball, soccerball or basketball, something that reflects their interests. Detailed information will be sent home later in April. PAWS Program We are planning some year end events to coincide with the positive behavior PAWS program. Please support us by reviewing the matrix with your child. Most of the students know it well and cooperate beautifully but it is always helpful to have all of the adults on the same page and support the students to do the right thing. Thank you for your continued support. Thank you to the PTA for supporting our PAWS program. End of Year Events As we plan the end of year events we will need volunteers. Please consider volunteering for these events that will not be possible without assistance. We need some men to volunteer to help set up and take down at Carnival. A couple of hours in the a.m. or p.m. would make a big difference for the students. We expect that the students will do their part and earn their PAWS. Please call the school office if you can help us out. LSC Meeting The LSC will meet on Tuesday, April 8th @ 4:00. The SIPAAA plan approval will take place. LSC Candidate Forum On Tuesday, April 8th the candidates will be here for a forum. All are welcome to come hear the candidates. The forum will begin @ 5:30 following the LSC Meeting. Counselors from Public and Private Schools will be here to provide information. PTA Membership It is not too late to join the PTA. If you have not already done so information is available on the website including the membership form. Great schools have great parental support and strong PTA involvement. Please take the time to show your support by signing up as a member. Eighth Graders Please bring copies of acceptance letters from high schools to the school office. We need to have detailed information for our students to ensure a smooth transition to high school. Spring Drama The Spring Drama Club program has started. We invite families to come ready to help clean up and green up the grounds. We will meet on the playground on the south end of the annex @ 9:00 a.m. Parent Patrol Thank you to all of the individuals who volunteered. Many people have commented on how well the parent patrol has been able to help keep our students safe at entrance and dismissal. We can’t thank them enough for their hard work and dedication especially in this winter season. Website Please continue to check the website. All newsletters, calendars and other pertinent information will be posted on this site. The voice blast is posted every Sunday. The newsletter is posted the first Friday of every month. Arrival and Dismissal Students are to arrive to school no earlier than 8:45. There is no one to supervise them before this time. Parents who can walk their children to school are encouraged to do so to keep the traffic to a minimum. Those who do drive are asked to drop their children off next to the curb and then leave the premises. Students are to be picked up at 2:45. No one should enter the parking lot before or after school, as there is a great deal of pedestrian traffic at that time. If your child forgets their lunch please know that we have extra lunches and they will be fed. Lunches can be purchased at the school. Absence from School Thanks to all the parents who have been calling the school to report absences from school. Please notify the school by telephone if your child will be absent from school. You can leave a voice mail at any time. We appreciate your cooperation. Parents should call the school when their child will be absent from school. It is important that we know that the students are safe. It is preferred that the parents call the school by 9:15 so that we know your child is at home with you. You can call and leave a voice mail as early as 7 a.m. Drivers in and around the school Please be courteous and cautious when dropping off or picking up students. We need you to respect the traffic patterns and safety patrol crossing areas. Please do not block crosswalks, double-park to drop off or park and wait unnecessarily blocking traffic and creating congestion. Safety and Security Visitors (anyone who is not a staff member or student) will not be allowed to be in the building unless they have entered through the office, signed in and received a visitor’s pass. Please do not enter with the children or through any door other than the office door on Hamilton to obtain a pass. See April Calendar and upcoming events. There are many so mark your calendars.
