Join Us on May 13th May 13th is a very exciting evening at Sutherland. We will have our Art Fair in the gymnasium. We also have the Scholastic Book Fair at special bargain prices. Fifth grade parents are invited to an Introduction to the IB/MYP Programme. Please come and see the student’s artwork, shop for books and learn about the IB. Spring Portraits Last chance for Spring Portraits! Many individuals have expressed interest in the Spring Portraits. If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity please send your child’s name, room number, your phone number, indicate whether or not you want to use a prop such as violin or baseball, name the prop and submit payment of $40.00 by Friday, May 9th. We will schedule one last date for those that pay by Friday, May 9th. This is the last opportunity for this year. Girls Basketball Registration All Girls in grade 4-8 who are interested in signing up for basketball need to have a parent register them on Thursday, May 8th or Thursday, May 15th. Flyers will be sent home with the students. Registration will take place from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. on both nights. Coaches Applications All coaches will need to fill out new applications to coach for next school year. We will start with girl’s basketball. Call the office and leave a message for Ms. Cody and one can be sent home. We will post these applications on line within the next week. SAFETY FIRST Many children have been bringing rip boards and skate boards to school. These items are not allowed at school. There are far too many people on the grounds in the morning and after school. Please do not allow the children to bring these things to school. CLEAN AND GREEN RESCHEDULED Thank you to all the hardy souls who came out on April 19 and braved the torrential downpour with smiles and good cheer at our rained out Clean and Green. We hope all of you, plus many others, will join us on MAY 17 for a Planting Party. Bring your gardening tools, gloves and rakes again, plus any bulbs or perennials you want to split and get rid of, especially hardy species like hosta, daylilies, etc. We will also purchase some perennials to plant that day. Weeding and preparing the beds will take some time, so feel free to come on over and start in on a patch earlier if you are inspired. We will continue to tally the grades and reward the most represented with the pizza party. So far, 6th grade is in the lead, with 2nd grade in second place. READY For PLANTING Spring Clean and Green has been rescheduled but much of the work was completed and the grounds around the main building and garden near parking lot on Hamilton are ready if you have plants to share now. You can plant there at your convenience or come out on May 17th to our rescheduled event. If every family donated a perennial plant we would have more than 500 additions to our gardens. Please donate a plant if you are able from your garden or wherever. Rosetta Stone On-Line Language June Renewal or new subscriptions If you are interested in subscribing for the Rosetta Stone on-line language program or renewing your subscription if it expires in June please print and fill out form and submit payment prior to June 1st. PAWS Program We are planning some year end events to coincide with the positive behavior PAWS program. Please support us by reviewing the matrix with your child. Most of the students know it well and cooperate beautifully but it is always helpful to have all of the adults on the same page and support the students to do the right thing. Thank you for your continued support. Thank you to the PTA for supporting our PAWS program. End of Year Events LSC Meeting The LSC will meet on Tuesday, May 13th @ 4:00. There is no one to supervise them before this time. Parents who can walk their children to school are encouraged to do so to keep the traffic to a minimum. Those who do drive are asked to drop their children off next to the curb and then leave the premises. Students are to be picked up at 2:45. No one should enter the parking lot before or after school, as there is a great deal of pedestrian traffic at that time. If your child forgets their lunch please know that we have extra lunches and they will be fed. Lunches can be purchased at the school. Absence from School Thanks to all the parents who have been calling the school to report absences from school. Please notify the school by telephone if your child will be absent from school. You can leave a voice mail at any time. We appreciate your cooperation. Parents should call the school when their child will be absent from school. It is important that we know that the students are safe. It is preferred that the parents call the school by 9:15 so that we know your child is at home with you. You can call and leave a voice mail as early as 7 a.m. Drivers in and around the school Please be courteous and cautious when dropping off or picking up students. We need you to respect the traffic patterns and safety patrol crossing areas. Please do not block crosswalks, double-park to drop off or park and wait unnecessarily blocking traffic and creating congestion. Safety and Security Visitors (anyone who is not a staff member or student) will not be allowed to be in the building unless they have entered through the office, signed in and received a visitor’s pass. Please do not enter with the children or through any door other than the office door on Hamilton to obtain a pass. Calendar
