Report Card Pick-up
Report Card Pick-Up will take place on Wednesday, November 16th from 12:30-6 p.m.
Annual Fundraiser Event at the BAC
Saturday, November 6th is the date for our annual major fundraising event. The Beverly Wine and Cheese Event promises to be quite a success. An unprecedented number of tickets have already been sold. This event is provided as a combined effort of the PTA, Foundation and Men’s club. We look forward to seeing you there.
November Events and Holidays
During the month of November we will have two separate activities to support our troops. The first is raising funds for Postage for Parcels to send items to troops. The second is a drive “Bringing Christmas to the Troops” for particular products (a list will be sent home) we will send things to the troops. We will also invite local Veteran’s to a special breakfast one morning during the month.
On Thursday, November 11th we will not be in school in order to observe the Veteran’s Day holiday. November 12th is a Professional Development Day and there is not school for students. The Thanksgiving holiday will take place on November 25th and there is no school for students on November 25th or November 26th.
After School Programs cancelled November 24th
All Students will be dismissed at the regular end of the school day on Wednesday, November 24th. There will not be any after school classes, clubs at all on that day.
Items to Return to School
Please return the emergency cards, school fees, cultural enhancement performance fees and other items to school as soon as possible. It is imperative that we have those emergency cards updated for our office file. School Fees were due on September 25th. Payment of fees is required prior to participating in any extra curricular activities. Those students participating in sports need to have fees paid before participating. Your appreciation is greatly appreciated.
The next regularly scheduled LSC meeting will take place on at Tuesday, November 9th @ 4:30 p.m.
Join the PTA
The best schools have a great deal of involvement by parents and community members. Please be sure to join the PTA. The next PTA meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 9th @ 7:00 p.m.
Class of 2011
Parents of graduating 8th graders are invited to attend and be on the graduation planning committee. This first meeting will take place on November 8th @ 6:00 p.m.
The LSC is sending home a survey with the youngest and only child per family. This survey should come home on November 3rd. They ask that you complete the survey and return it to school by November 17th (Report-Card Pick-Up Day). Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
No Dogs at School Please
Please do not bring dogs to school when dropping off or picking up your children. Many of the students will want to pet the dogs and we do not know who might be allergic. Some may be afraid of dogs and feel unsafe. Also the dogs could become overwhelmed and snap or bite one of the children. It is not safe to have dogs around when there are so many students leaving or entering the building. Please do not bring them to the school.
As always we need for you to call in your child when they are ill. Please call in the morning by 9:15. You can leave a voice mail message at any time press 1 for attendance and leave your message. Homework is not automatically assigned if your child misses one day then they can get the assignments the next day when they return. If they miss will miss more than one day due to illness you can call on the second day early in the day before 9:15 and ask that assignments be gathered.
Safety and Security
Apparently there have been incidents in CPS schools that have occurred when students were unsupervised. It has been an issue at several schools for both alleged and actual occurrences therefore students are not allowed to go back in the building for forgotten belongings etc once dismissed. We have been asked to follow these procedures and we will be doing so. Students are not allowed to return to the buildings for forgotten items after school has dismissed.
Visitors during the school day (anyone who is not a staff member or student) will not be allowed to be in the building unless they have entered through the office, signed in and received a visitor’s pass. Please do not enter with the children or through any door other than the office door on Hamilton to obtain a pass.
Arrival and Dismissal
Students are to arrive to school no earlier than 8:45. There is no one to supervise them before this time. Parents who can walk their children to school are encouraged to do so to keep the traffic to a minimum. Those who do drive are asked to drop their children off next to the curb or even a bit further away and then leave the premises. Students are to be picked up at 2:45. No one should enter the parking lot before or after school, as there is a great deal of pedestrian traffic at that time. If your child forgets their lunch please know that we have extra lunches and they will be fed. Lunches can be purchased at the school.

Traffic around the School
The number of cars and the unsafe practices being demonstrated around the school are creating problems that are hazardous for our children. We need for parents to consider others and keep the flow of traffic moving. Individuals who park and watch their children stand in line create unnecessary conditions. People who talk on the cell phone while driving and are not paying attention to the adults directing traffic are adding to the problem creating further delays and back-ups. If you want to watch your child until they go in the building park at least on the next block and walk with them. Turning on 100th from Leavitt rather than going to 99th may be more convenient but creates further delay. We know that everyone agrees the safety of children is the most important thing to consider. We encourage you to consider walking or parking away from the perimeter of the school. We absolutely need parents to follow the rules and simply drop off their child and leave the premises safely. . Please do not block crosswalks, double-park to drop off or park and wait unnecessarily blocking traffic and creating congestion. Please be courteous and cautious when dropping off or picking up students. We need you to respect the traffic patterns and safety patrol crossing areas.
We have contacted the police department and they will be assisting us. Tickets will be issued to individuals who continue to follow unsafe practices. We would also appreciate volunteers who would help us manage the traffic and ensure the students are safe. We sincerely appreciate your willingness to assist for the benefit of our students. If you would like to volunteer for Parent Patrol even a day or two per week please call the office and leave your name and contact information or fill out the Parent Volunteer form that was sent home and is available on the website.
