September 11, 2007 Minutes

Meeting called to order at 9:00 a.m.
Minutes moved, seconded and approved from June meeting.

Treasurer’s Report:

  • Income reported from donations made by alumni $880.00

Principle’s Report:

  • Open House reminder
  • Visited by alumni years as follows 61, 62, 63
  • Received donation of $880.00 by alumni
  • Bill Cahill is president of Alumni Assoc.
  • PTA monthly virtue is PEACE
  • Dedication on Leavitt Street side for Peace is at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 12th
  • 6th, 7th, and 8th graders will visit Grant Park Sept. 20th (Doctors without Borders)
  • I.B. teachers and principle to pick-up new books, study global issues
  • LSC meeting Sept. 11, 4pm
  • Paws program kick off, standards made higher
  • Sent home lists for reading buddies and patrol volunteers needed
  • No school Sept. 26th – no more half days – 4 full days off
  • Special thanks to parents who have been calling in their sick children

LSC Report:

  • Last meeting wrapped up year of School Safety

Officers Reports:

  • Dawn Craan – PTA membership – only 4 people joined as of 9/11/07 at 9:00 a.m. Need MEMBERS!!!!

Committee Reports:

  • I Madonnari – need volunteers Sept 22nd from 11 am – 3pm
  • Library Committee – goals – fund raise $ to purchase book carts for each grade
  • Directory – sent home in packet a sheet that needs to be filled out “yes” with info or “no” do not want to be listed. Sheets need to be back at school by Sept 17th
  • Newsletter – need volunteers for Thursday morning, two people a week for roughly 2 hours
  • Innisbrook – Laurie Ach – Key is participation!! Innisbrook orders due back by Oct. 2nd
    • Goal – to have school participation up by 50%
    • November Fundraiser spice soup mixers – delivered before Dec, taste testing will be available next meeting
    • Spring fundraiser Fannie Mae Candy
    • PARTICIPATION IS KEY!!!!
  • Parents Night Out – Date March 8th, down to 3 people on committee, needs more volunteers
    • Last year raised $7000.00 for school
  • Market Day – Mary Gallery – Need night volunteers for distribution
    • Goals for Oct – 4 new families, 4 orders per classroom, each order spending at least $40.00
    • If goals are reached will receive $400.00 in new books for library

Old Business – none

New Business

  • Jim Parrilli (881-3181) – Lions Club has been part of Beverly for 75 years
    • Needs husbands to help at Candy Day, Friday Oct 17th
    • Money raised goes to “Sight First”
  • Character Education: PTA each month will pick a virtue
    • Sept. virtue is Peace
    • Sutherland students will compete in an essay and poster writing contest
    • Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place
    • Oct. virtue is Self-Discipline
