PTA Minutes September 15, 2009Meeting called to order at 7:00 pm. A motion to approve June’s minutes was moved, seconded and approved. Guest Speaker: Mrs. Ryan and Mrs. Civik presented on the IB Program, including details on the history, philosophy and highlighted results. Sutherland administers the middle years program automatically to all 6-8 grade students and feeds into the IB Program at Morgan Park High School. The program was started in the 1960’s for diplomats to enable consistent educational requirements worldwide as the children of the diplomats traveled around. The program is administered in 138 countries with over 750k students participating. Sutherland applies the IB philosophy of education - Global Intelligence, Connecting classroom to real life and Holistic learning while using the standard CPS curriculum. Laurie Cleary, an online retailer and Sutherland parent was also on-site with a display containing many of the environmentally friendly lunchbox and storage items that are available at www.lunchville.com. Treasurer's Report: The audit for 2008/2009 was performed and all is fine. The budget for 2009/2010 was set and the motion to accept was moved, seconded and approved. A note of thanks was given for the generous donation from the Beverly/Ridge Homeowners Association. Also, Sutherland families were reminded to register with www.escrip.com for an easy way for the school to receive rebates.
